Tornadoes add to 3SC woes

3SC’s season appears to be crumbling before them, as they suffered their 14th defeat of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) campaign losing two-nil at Niger Tornadoes on Saturday.

New signings for Niger Tornadoes, Sibi Gwar and Daniel Etor, continued their goal-scoring to help the home side claim all points.

Playing without their influential forward, Gbolahan Salami on the day at the Bako Kontagora Stadium in Minna, the Oluyole Warriors held out for a goalless draw in the opening 45 minutes.

But Fatai Amoo’s men however kicked off the second half on a sorry note. Inside 10 minutes of the restart, a 3SC player was adjudged to have handled the ball in a scramble to clear and Gwar stepped up to convert from the spot sending Segun Oluwaniyi the wrong way.

The goal brought Gwar’s total goals’ haul of the campaign to 10.

Sensing that they would end up sitting just six points above the drop zone, 3SC poured forward in search of an equaliser.

The Ibadan club were punished with a quarter of an hour to time when speedster Etor beat a 3SC defence playing a high line to score the second goal of the game for Niger Tornadoes.

The goal scored by Etor was a similar he scored in Tornadoes’ win at Ilorin against Bukola Babes on June 26.

Etor’s goal took the sail off the away team, as Tornadoes held on for their 11th win of the campaign to remain 11th on the log with 42 points from 30 games.

Gwar, who was declared surplus to requirement at Kwara United, expressed happiness that he has hit a rich vein of form that has seen him score 10 times in 12 games since he joined Niger Tornadoes in March during the mid-season transfer window.

He told SuperSport.com after the game: “I am happy that we won today, and I was able to contribute my part to the team. I am also happy that I have scored 10 goals in this second half of the season and I hope to score more and maybe I can win highest goal scorer’s award.”

3SC return to Ibadan empty-handed and thereby stretch their winless streak to five so far.

Amoo’s men last won in the Premier League on June 6 when they defeated holders, Enyimba by a lone goal in Abeokuta.

The Oluyole Warriors are now on 36 points, and could their six-point above the drop zone cut to either three or five depending on the outcome of Zamfara United’s game at Kaduna United on Sunday.
