Flying Eagles’ players, Sunday Abe and Gbolahan Salami, were left out of the Sunshine Stars’ side that defeated Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) at the Akure Township Stadium by a lone goal.
The development now means that the two junior international players would return to the club in November when the one-month break for the Under-17 World Cup ends.
General Manager of Sunshine Stars, Mike Idoko, told Naijaligue.blogspot.com that the two players were left out of last weekend’s encounter since they were yet to report to camp since returning from the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Egypt, where Nigeria performed poorly.
He explained that apart from Abe and Salami being absent, the coaching crew had decided to leave them out of the team until next month since they had visited a different clime from Nigeria and would need time to condition.
“I am yet to see any of them (Abe and Salami) since the (Under-20) national team returned to the country. But they are still very much part of our team because we registered them for this season and we have their papers to show for that. The two players were left out by our coaches since they did not return to camp and it would not have made any sense to rush them back to the side so as not to alter the flow in the side because they have been away for more than one month.
“But I am sure that by the time the break for the (Under-17) World Cup ends, they will be back with the side and the break will also afford the coaches first-hand opportunity to look at them and make their decision on where they will fit into the side,” he said.
