Heartland, Juth in six-goal thriller

Two struggling sides in the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) this season, Heartland and Juth, produced six goals in their Week 28 rescheduled game at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri on Wednesday.

Heartland defeated bottom side on the log, Juth, 4-2.

Chibuzor Ozurumba, Chibuzor Okonkwo and captain Chinedu 'Chicago' Efugh (pictured) got Heartland's goals before Danjuma Abdullahi scored two late goals for Juth.

The game looked all over inside 20 minutes of the start when the home side raced into a three-goal lead.

In spite of the rains pouring down in drizzles, Ozurumba put Heartland one goal up on five minutes with a low drive inside the box of Juth to beat goalkeeper Nura Mohammed.

And the Heartland centre forward doubled the lead 14 minutes later.

Super Eagles right-back, Okonkwo rifled home an indirect free kick on 20 minutes to hand the Naze Millionaires a three-goal lead and a dream start to the game.

Though Juth fought back, they met resistance in the backline of Heartland with Efugh, Okonkwo, Emmanuel Olowo and Ghanaian Joseph Jackson.

And the overlapping centre-back, Efugh was not to be denied his chance of getting on the score sheet on 60 minutes when he rammed home his side's fourth of the evening after poor goalkeeping from Mohammed.

However, Abdullahi pulled one back for Juth 12 minutes later after turning home a low cross from the right channel.

On the 82nd minute, former Wikki Tourists man, Uche Martins, thought he had scored Juth's second of the game but he was ruled to be offside by the match referee.

Just on the dot of time, Abdullahi scored his second goal of the game with a sweet left foot strike off a long cross to beat keeper Bassey Akpan in goal for Heartland.

Abdullahi's double strike could only earn 'The Healers' a 2-4 loss that leaves them rooted to the bottom of the league table with 22 points after 29 games.

Heartland move into 13th place with 37 points from same number of games.
