Premier League suspends Akabuogu

The Nigeria Premier League (NPL) has placed Ocean Boys centre-back, Okey Akabuogu, on indefinite suspension for misconduct, SuperSport.com can confirm.

The suspension comes against the backdrop of allegation levelled against the 32-year-old defender that his conduct led to the abrupt abandonment of a Week 33 game scheduled to hold between Ocean Boys and Lobi Stars.

Akabuogu is alleged to have stormed the hotel camp of Lobi Stars on Sunday morning demanding that officials of the club pay up contract fees owed him since 2008.

The suspension on Akabuogu leaves him out of all topflight games organised by the NPL in the country until investigation into the saga leading to the botched game is concluded.

"Okey Akabuogu, a registered player of Ocean Boys FC of Bayelsa is suspended indefinitely for his conduct in bringing the game into disrepute, pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation on an allegation that inhibited the match between Ocean Boys FC and Lobi Stars FC being played at the Samson Siasia Stadium on Sunday, July 17, 2011," a statement released by the Premier League on Monday read.

Also, the league body issued a warning to goalkeeper of Enugu Rangers, Ebele Obi.

"Ebele Obi, Rangers International FC goalkeeper, is warned for improper dressing," the Premier League said.
