New Plateau United signing, Daddy Maurice, started off his career in the Nigeria National League (NNL) this season on a flying note.
Maurice completed a season-long loan switch for N1.3 million from Dolphins to Plateau United last week and quickly settled into his new team in his first game against Zamfara United.
The midfielder, who was deployed in an attacker role, scored twice in Plateau United's 4-1 win over Zamfara United at the Rwang Pam Stadium in Jos.
Plateau United got off the blocks fastest with Obadiah Longji opening score for the hosts.
And before the first 45 minutes ended Maurice had raised the bar by getting on the score sheet twice to hand Plateau United a three-goal lead and effectively kill off any challenge from Zamfara United.
On 65 minutes, Caleb Baba scored from close range to make it four for Plateau United.
However, Zamfara United got their consolation with 10 minutes to time when Ayande Kabiru turned the ball into his own goal.
Maurice expressed excitement at starting off at Plateau United on a scoring note.
But he refused to be drawn into promising to secure promotion back to the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) for his club.
"I'm very happy with the way I've started here. For me, it is good to score twice (against Zamfara United) and for the team, the result is good and we hope to continue putting in our best this season.
"As for winning promotion at the end of the season, it is still a long way from now. We will be working towards that but first we will focus on our next games rather than think of promotion now," he told SuperSport.com.
Plateau United were relegated from the top flight in Nigeria last season after they finished in the bottom four.
