NNWL clubs face NFF sanction

The Nigeria Football Federation has suspended four clubs indefinitely for their roles in scandalous scorelines in the Nationwide League (NNWL) at the weekend, with further sanctions looming over them.

Plateau United Feeders  in an amazing game defeated Akurba FC by 79-0 while Police Machine FC demolished Bubayaro FC 67-0.

The four teams were involved in promotion playoffs in which the winners would qualify to play in Nigeria Nationwide League (NNWL) Division III.

NFF Organising Committee chairman, Mike Umeh (pictured), said the outcome of the matches are "unacceptable" and assured the teams will be handed further punishments.

“It is unacceptable. This is a scandal of huge proportions. The four teams involved are suspended immediately and indefinitely, pending further sanctions. We will investigate this matter thoroughly and get to the bottom of it,” Umeh, who is first vice president of the NFF, said.

NFF’s Director of Competitions, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi said every actor in the two matches will not be spared from severe sanction.

“For now, that centre is suspended. The teams involved, their players and officials, match officials, coordinator and anyone found to have played some role in this despicable matter would be severely dealt with,” Sanusi said.
