Tornadoes’ Coach Resigns In Anger

The most senior coaching staff of Niger Tornadoes after Justin Tenger last season, Samson Unuanel, has dumped the Minna club in anger after it emerged that Godwin Uwua would be named head coach of the club.
Uwua was appointed as coach of the club and was handed a two-year deal to lead the side in the 2009/2010 and 2010/2011 seasons.
Unuanel, who is addressed as chief coach of the club tendered his resignation letter to the management of the club last Thursday.
Unuanel, a former coach of Ocean Boys Football Club, is believed to have resigned in anger that Niger Tornadoes has failed to recognise his input to the side during the campaign last season though Tenger was head coach.
The one-time coach at the Pepsi Football Academy was hoping that the departure of Tenger would set the tone for him to assume the role of head coach at the Premier League side until was Uwua given the job.
Unfortunately for Unuanel, the club management has decided to bring in a new coach in Uwua to lead the line while he (Unuanel) would assist just as he did last season.
Apart from that the Niger Tornadoes’ chief coach had made his intention clear that he was not ready to work as an assistant to a new coach, as he believes that he is capable of leading the backroom staff of the club when the new campaign starts next month across the country.
“Coach Samson Unuanel is not happy at all with the management of Niger Tornadoes. He believes that they do not see him as someone that is competent enough to become the head coach of the job, which is why they are planning to bring in a new coach. He has said that he would not work under anybody that is brought to the club. That was part of the condition he gave the club management if they want him to stay for another season. Since he was not guaranteed that and with reports that Niger Tornadoes will name a new coach soon he decided to leave since his contract had expired,” said
However, the destination of Unuanel remains shrouded in mystery, as the coach is weighing options of joining a club willing to hand him a head coach job.
