The Nigeria Premier League (NPL) has issued a strongly worded letter to the management of Ocean Boys Football Club over the ugly incident that occurred in Benin last weekend.
The warning came as the match report regarding the match between Ocean Boys and Enyimba indicated that one Erhumwuh, a supporter of Ocean Boys encroached into the pitch thereby causing temporary stoppage.
The NPL in its statement signed by Head Competition Department, Tunji Babalola, expressed total disappointment from the way Premier League clubs supporter carryout acts that send wrong signals to the world about the Globacom Premier League: “We wish to express our total displeasure over the incident as such conduct is contrary to NPL rules and regulations and the aspirations to take the league to a greater height.”
Ocean Boys was further charged to call its fans to order as such conduct could bring the game into disrepute.
The Premier League also warned other clubs in this season’s campaign that such acts would not be condoned.
