Online Award Excites Chibambo, Arugo Monkey

Two of the winners in the maiden edition of the Naija Premier League Online Xmas Award, Zambia’s Signswonder Chibambo and Enyimba goalkeeper, Chijioke Ejiogu, also known as Arugo Monkey, are happy to be recognized among the best players in the top-flight.
Chibambo and Ejiogu though admitted being in the dark about the online award organized by Naijaligue.blogspot.com and Naijapremierleague.com expressed pleasure at being named as the best foreign player and best goalkeeper respectively.
“It’s good, though I’m just knowing about it,” Chibambo said while speaking with naiajpremierleague.com on Sunday.
He defeated his Liberian teammate, Bill Sheriff and Senegal’s Ousmane Sane of Sharks.
Chibambo is the first Zambian to play in the highly rated Nigerian League.
Ejiogu, on the other hand, told Naijaligue.blogspot.com that the award as the best goalkeeper in the online Xmas award would spur him on to continue to give his best during the season for the Peoples Elephant.
The former Dolphin Football Club goalkeeper was picked ahead of Heartland Football Club’s shotstopper, Austin Brown, in the best goalkeeper’s category of the award due to his exploit since the start of the season which has been one of the reasons Enyimba would remain on top of the Premier League into the New Year.
“Sincerely I am happy about this though I didn’t know that there is such an award in place. I believe that the people behind this award have been really following the league and that is why I was picked as the best goalkeeper. Now I know that I will need to work hard to remain the best and also help my club do well this season,” Ejiogu told Naijaligue.blogspot.com in an interview.
Apart from being nominated in the best goalkeeper category, Ejiogu was also picked to battle in the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for online Xmas award alongside Osas Idehen and Fengor Ogude of Enyimba and Warri Wolves respectively.
However, Ejiogu’s Enyimba’s team-mate, Idehen, was picked for his seven goals in 11 appearances for the Peoples Elephant.
The Naija Premier League Xmas Online Award was instituted by two news sites on the Nigerian League, Naijaligue.blogspot.com and Naijapremierleague.com, is meant to celebrate the best from Week 1 till the league went on break by Week 12.
The two websites are also planning a monthly online award, which would begin in January 2010 and the big one will be the end of season awards at the end of the season.
