Following the shift in the kick off date of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) for the 2010/2011 season, a gathering of the General Assembly of the league arbiter has been summoned.
The executive members of the Premier League met on Tuesday after at the secretariat of the body and unanimously agreed that an emergency congress of the top-flight division should be called for October 7.
The Premier League hopes that next Wednesday’s congress will fashion out modalities for the elite division, which has suddenly taken a 24-team format after last season’s relegated clubs were returned to the top division on Wednesday.
Also, the NPL agreed that the new date of October 23 for the kick of the league has been accepted.
“The NPL board has reaffirmed the kick off date for the 2010/2011 league season (October 23rd, 2010).
“Equally, the board has called an emergency congress for Wednesday October 7, 2010 in Abuja where modalities and technicality of the league will be worked out,” read the statement from the Premier League after Thursday’s meeting in Abuja.
