Nigeria Premier League club, Sunshine Stars of Akure, could be embarking on a pre-season tour of Europe before the start of the top-flight division commences.
The plan for the training tour of Europe has been proposed by the management of the club, according to the Executive Director of the Ondo State Football Agency (OSFA), Mike Idoko.
Idoko hinted that all arrangements have been concluded for the team to play some matches in Belgium, France and Portugal before the start of the season.
However, the trip is still subject to approval from the Ondo State government, which is the financier of the Premier League outfit.
Idoko explained that the aim of the training tour to the three countries is to afford the side prepare for the Premier League and the CAF Confederation Cup, which it will compete in next year.
“We have finalised the necessary arrangements. The teams in these countries have been contacted and they have given us the greenlight but we still need to get the approval of His Excellency, Governor Segun Mimiko,” he said.
The former board member of the Premier League stated that when approved, Sunshine Stars will travel with 26 players.
“We have done it before when we were with Warri Wolves when we travelled to
France and by the grace of God, we are going to do it better with Sunshine Stars,” Idoko said.
