It appears that the kick off date set for the 2010/2011 Nigeria Premier League (NPL) has hit another hitch after the board of the top-flight stated that the commencement has once again been suspended.
In a communiqué released by the Premier League on Wednesday night in Abuja, it stated that it has decided to suspend the kick off date based the dissolution of the all committees of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The dissolution also affects the Referees Appointment Committee, which is responsible for the placement of match officials for Premier League games.
“The 2010/2011 League season is on hold on the strength of the NFF’s letter received about 4:52pm in the course of the Board meeting of 20/10/2010 stating that all NFF’s Committees including the Referees Appointment Committee have been dissolved,” said the statement from the media office of the NPL.
The letter was said to have been delivered by one Barnabas Joro of the referees unit in the NFF just minutes before the NPL concluded its board meeting at its Abuja secretariat.
This is the third time that the kick off for the top-flight in Nigeria is suffering a postponement.
The elite division had been billed to begin this Saturday until this latest development.
