The Nigeria Premier League [NPL] has entered into an agreement with its broadcast marketer to have the opening game of the 2010/2011 season live on national radio.Kaduna United will play host to Kano Pillars at the Kaduna Township Stadium this Saturday in the Premier League opener of the season.
Head, Media and Publicity of the NPL, Emeka Nwani, said that the game will be broadcast live on the network service of Nigeria's national radio.
"The first game between Kaduna United and Kano Pillars will be live on radio from Kaduna," he said. "For now that is the only game scheduled for live broadcast on radio. There will be an extensive plan on the live coverage of matches on radio later."
Nwani further explained that the move to have the opening game and subsequent ones on radio is to allow more Nigerians follow the country's top-flight division.
"You know that the radio has a very, very large audience. Almost everyone in the country listens to the radio. So that is why we have decided to explore that option.
"I want to remind you that in the past we used to have live radio coverage of the Premier League and it was always a success then. So I believe it will be a renewed chapter for the coverage and following of the league," said Nwani.
