Sharks v Dolphin
This will be the seventh derby between both sides since March 30, 2003. In the previous ties since 2003, the Blue Angels have never won a game against Dolphin (home and away). There is only one pointer to this game – another draw in the Port Harcourt. But expect fireworks from the stands to the pitch with the likes of Victor Ezeji, Bright Ejike, Sunday Rotimi, Owusu Addae and co all primed for this one.

Niger Tornadoes v Juth FC
Tornadoes return to Minna to seek a win over Jos University Teaching Hospital (Juth) Football Club. But Ladan Bosso’s men must be wary of Ghanaian James Amankwei, Chris Madaki and Victor Yakubu in this game. Tornadoes, of course, are not lacking in quality when you consider the experience of Daddy Bazuaye, Justice Chinedu, Tawose Okiki and Adamu Baba Sule among others. Bosso’s side will pick all points in this game.

Kwara United v Kano Pillars
One of the biggest clashes of the weekend sees Kadiri Ikhana facing his old team in Offa. In this same fixture last season, it ended goalless but Ikhana will be barking out instructions to his team to go for the maximum points after a winless start to the season. Kwara United will bank on a handful of youngsters and oldies to inflict a first defeat on Kano Pillars, who have experienced campaigners in Rabiu Ali, Abdulwasiu Showemimo, John Yampe, Maurice Chigozie and goalkeeper Theophilus Afelokhai.

3SC v Bukola Babes
Gbolahan Salami is still suspended for this game but Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) should take advantage of the in-fighting at the Babes to forge ahead this season. Expect Kabiru Alausa to lead the lines with support from Tope Orelope, Shola Abolade, Chima Akas and Lateef Adigun. Fatai Amoo and 3SC faithful will not expect any result less than a win after their side capitulated late in the game last weekend away to Zamfara United to drop two points.

Plateau United v Sunshine Stars
If Gbenga Ogunbote’s side want to be reckoned a competitor this term, they must start picking points on the road. Having started on a losing note on the opening day, Plateau United will be spoiled for a win in this game at the Rwang Pam Stadium in Jos. Ajibade Omolade, George Akpabio, Peter Gyang, Edward Bewarang and Tochukwu Esim will play roles in trying to ensure that Ndubuisi Nduka’s side see off Sunshine Stars, whose confidence have soared after their Week 2 triumph over champions, Enyimba. But a draw looks on the cards.

Gombe United v Lobi Stars
Both sides have faced each other continually in the past six seasons in 14 games. But Lobi Stars are yet to win at Gombe with a goalless draw on March 14, 2004 being their best away result against their opponents. That impressive home run by Gombe United over Lobi should not change with coach Bernard Ogbe handing Lazarus Chukwu, Alhaji Kwairanga, Ndala Ibrahim, Ifeanyi Okoro and co the license to wreck the visiting team. Lobi will drop all points in this one.

Warri Wolves v Heartland
This is Sunday’s top-of-the-bill clash at the Warri City Stadium. Last season, this game produced five goals inside 74 minutes. Three of the goalscorers – Solomon Onamado and Gift Atulewa (both of Wolves) and Kingsley Udoh (Heartland) – in this game are still attached to both clubs while the other two goalscorers, Bill Sheriff and Fengor Ogude, have moved on. Definitely it will be fireworks, as Emmanuel Omodiagbe faces his old teammates and will want to prove a few points in this one. Wolves look good to win this game.

Enyimba v Zamfara United
The Peoples Elephant’s domineering run against Zamfara United should continue this weekend. Enyimba have failed to score three goals in a home tie against United just once since February 23, 2005. Okey Emordi’s men will be all over Zamfara United from the start with Josiah Maduabuchi, Henry Uche, Ekene Iwuorie, Ifeanyi Ede, Atanda Sakibu and Uche Kalu playing roles in what could turn out to be steamroll.

Enugu Rangers v Ocean Boys
Last week, Rangers succumbed to a late goal at Dolphin. But Alphonsus Dike will aim to force all points from Ocean Boys in this tricky tie. Expect the 2006 champions, Ocean Boys, to approach this game with a defensive style with the hope of hitting the Flying Antelopes on the break. But the success of that style will be dependent on how well Ocean Boys keep the attacking runs of Ejike Uzoenyi, Charles Taylor, John Nnam and Uche Nwofor at bay. Dike’s men are in position to win this one.

Kaduna United v Crown FC
Playmaker Sani Aruwa is still a doubt for this game though he faces a fitness test and yet could still play through pain. Also, assistant coach, Abdullahi Heyman, should continue in charge of the team in the absence of Maurice Cooreman. Though Crown Football Club have shown that they are no pushovers with Phillip Asuquo, Harrison Egbune, John Fayoseh and Gabriel Agu leading the lines well in their opening two games, it is Kaduna United that look sure to pick the full points in this game.
Our prediction: 2 – 0
