Nigeria wrap for Week 9

In NINE games played at the weekend, our predictor scored SIX correct results but NO exact score. One game – Juth FC versus Kano Pillars – was called off on security grounds.

Niger Tornadoes 0 Bukola Babes 0
Playing at the Kaduna Township Stadium and far away from home, Tornadoes failed to nail one of the Premier League newcomers in this tie. Bukola Babes held on for all 90 minutes to secure a valuable draw on the road to keep two points off the drop zone.
Prediction: 1 – 1

Kwara United 2 Ocean Boys 0
Expectedly Kadiri Ikhana’s Kwara United won this game. It was Isiaka Olawale’s double strike against struggling Ocean Boys that made sure the Afonja Warriors remain within touching distance of Dolphins and Sunshine Stars at the top of the league log.
Prediction: 1 – 0

Gombe United 1 Shooting Stars 0
Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) continued their poor away form this term with a one-nil loss at Gombe United. Fatai Amoo’s men have appears to lost the zest and flow that characterized their game at the outset of this season. No wonder Gombe held on to Tochukwu Linus’ 48 minute goal to claim all three points to climb into the top four while Shooting Stars stay out of the top 10.
Prediction: 2 – 0

Sharks 2 Enyimba 1
The champions, Enyimba, worst start in seven years in the topflight continued at Sharks. In spite of going ahead through George Amakiri on 46 minutes inside the Sharks Stadium in Port Harcourt, it was the Wafu Cup champions that fought back with goals from former Enyimba attacking winger, Bright Ejike and Stanley Okoronkwo in the space of 24 minutes to give the Blue Angels their fourth win of the campaign. Enyimba suffered their fifth loss of the season.
Prediction: 2 – 0

Crown FC 0 Dolphins 1
This is one of the games that defied our predictor over the weekend. Dolphins grinded out their second win on the road in the season at Crown. Returning from injury, Chidi Osuchukwu emerged the hero for Dolphins, who climbed to the top of the log and went two points clear of Sunshine Stars, Kwara United and Gombe United in second, third and fourth respectively.
Prediction: 1 – 0

Heartland 0 Lobi Stars 0
Playing in Aba after being the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri was banned from hosting Premier League games, Heartland struggled to break a resilient Lobi Stars. The goalless outing in Aba only ensured that Lobi Stars are two points clear of the relegation zone while Heartland are four points off the league leaders, Dolphins.
Prediction: 3 – 1

Enugu Rangers 1 Plateau United 0
The five-goal magic of Enugu Rangers appears to have waned. The Flying Antelopes had to wait till the 81st minute before Chinedu Sunday broke the deadlock at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu and break the hearts of the travelling contingent, who had thought they could out for a draw.
Prediction: 2 – 0

Warri Wolves 3 Zamfara United 0
By all standards, Warri Wolves got the biggest result of Week 9 with a three-nil win over hapless Zamfara United. Goals from Tochukwu Mbachu, captain Goodluck Onamado and Samson Kpenosen wrapped up all points for Paul Aigbogun’s side. But it was the performance of Wolves’ captain, Onamado, that got the applause of Wolves’ fan at the Warri stadium on Sunday.
Prediction: 3 – 1

Kaduna Utd 1 Sunshine Stars 0
The top scorers for both sides – Jude Aneke (Kaduna United) and Ukeyima Akombo (Sunshine Stars) – were missing in the line-ups. It was a cagey game for longer spells before Victor Ezema poked home Kaduna United’s 11th goal of the season to make sure that they grab a place among the top 10 sides after Week 9 games.
Prediction: 1 – 1
