3SC thrown out of Federation Cup

Nigeria Premier League (NPL) side, 3SC, have been booted out of this year's edition of the Federation Cup formerly known as the FA Cup.

SuperSport.com was informed that the Appeals Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Tuesday upheld an appeal filed by 3SC's opponents, Akwa United to counter an earlier one by the Ibadan side.

Last Thursday, the disciplinary committee of the federation had awarded the Round of 59 match, played in Minna on June 14, to 3SC on the strength of Akwa United’s failure to present players’ licenses before the game.

But the the appeals committee chaired by Barrister Ibrahim Eddy Mark overruled the decision of the disciplinary committee in the wake of a protest filed by Akwa United.

Akwa United, a Nigeria National League (NNL) outfit, had won the game 4-2 on penalties to progress to the Round of 32 before 3SC were awarded the game.

Already, the management of 3SC has filed a petition through the Oyo State FA against the decision to eliminate its team from the oldest football tournament in Nigeria, according to its media department.

"We've filed a petition against this decision and it was done through the Oyo State FA. All of the committees involved have been copied including the NFF president, Alhaji Aminu Maigari.

"It is a decision we frown at especially knowing that some clubs were disqualified from taking part in the Federation Cup for same reason our opponents (Akwa United) have been found culpable," spokesman of 3SC, Jubril Arowolo, stated.
