Blue Angels dump Gabros out of cup

Sharks have become the latest topflight side in Nigeria to reach the group stage of the Federation Cup following a 3-0 win over Gabros FC at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City on Wednesday.

The Blue Angels got off to a flying start through defender Juwon Oshaniwa's second minute strike.

Under20 attacking winger, Bright Ejike, doubled the lead for Sharks just a minute before half time.

The former Enyimba man got his second and Sharks' third of the afternoon 13 minutes from time in a game that kicked off 2pm local time.

Captain of Sharks, Odinga Odinga, expressed happiness that his side returned to winning ways after having to draw in their three last games in the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) from winning positions.

The right-back, who has spent eight straight years at Sharks, told Naijaligue.blogspot.com that he hopes his team replicate their winning display in the cup game in their league game (at Enyimba) on Sunday.

Odinga said: "It is good to win again after our recent (lacklustre) performance in the league. I hope we can take this form into our next league game."
