Rangers do the double on 3SC

Five-time winners of the Nigerian topflight, Enugu Rangers, stunned their traditional rivals, 3SC, by a lone goal at the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta in one of Sunday’s Week 27 games.

The game played in the town of Abeokuta was an early kick off that started from 2.30pm local time.

Nigerian Under20 striker, Uche Nwofor, recalled from international duty by Rangers’ head coach, Alphonsus Dike, netted the winner on the hour mark to leave the home side stuck.

Coincidentally it is the second time that Nwofor will score against 3SC in the topflight this season after he got on the score sheet in the first meeting last December when Rangers won by 2 – 0.

It is the second road win for the Flying Antelopes this season after they had earlier defeated newcomers, Crown FC, at the Gateway International Stadium in Ilaro on matchday 17 in February.

For 3SC, the loss was their first at home and it could heap more pressure on head coach, Fatai Amoo, who is not enjoying the best of times at the club.

A delighted Rangers’ coach told SuperSport.com that the Flying Antelopes “want to finish as high as possible” on the log of the championship this term.

“It is what we have been looking forward to do all season – to win games away from home and against big teams too. Now we have got two wins away and we hope to work on that and improve further. Our aim now is to finish very high on the table,” Dike said.

Rangers now have 43 points from 27 games while 3SC are still on 34 and from same number of games played and just seven points above the relegation line.
