NPL to sign partnership deal Tuesday

The Nigeria Premier League (NPL) is set to enter into partnership with PZ Cussons Nigeria Plc.

It is understood that an agreement for the deal will be officially signed in Lagos between the Premier League and representatives of the company on Tuesday.

PZ Cussons is aiming to use its Robb brand as the official balm for the top flight in Nigeria.

“Football is a unifying force in Nigeria. Wherever you see people playing football you see passion and a love for the game,” said Managing Director of Family Care SBU (PZ Cussons Nigeria), Alex Goma.

“We are starting to see real steps being taken to improve football in Nigeria and we are proud to play an active role in its future development.”

Marketing manager of Robb, PZ Cussons Nigeria, Mark Knower, added that the firm has lofty plans embedded in its partnership with the league for every participant.

“Robb has provided the best relief from aches and pains for almost 50 years. This sponsorship arrangement with the NPL allows the Robb brand to extend this relief to all Nigerians via pure enjoyment and development of the game.

"We have some exciting plans ahead for the brand and the NPL can play an important role in this,” said Knower.

Acting NPL chairman, Shehu Gusau, said the focus is on improving and developing the league.

He stated that the NPL is concentrating on three key areas - the clubs, the crowd, and corporate support.

“The commercial landscape for football in Nigeria is beginning to change. We need to continue to work closely with the clubs and to improve the game, so that more people will come and support football in Nigeria,” Gusau said.

CEO of Fairplay Marketing, a leading sports consultancy firm, Justin Ofor, believes that the football league can grow on the strength of support from the corporate world.

“In order to improve football in Nigeria it is paramount that we can provide clear commercial and social benefits to enlist support from the corporate sector. Tuesday’s signing is a positive step forward for the game,” he said.
