Akwa Utd close in on quartet

Nigeria Premier League (NPL) returnees, Akwa United, are at present in the race to sign four top stars.

The four players are Monday Osagie (from Kwara United), John Gaadi (from Sunshine Stars), Nkereuwem Bassey (from Ocean Boys) and Morenikeji Taofeek Akanbi (from Crown FC).

SuperSport.com has been informed that Osagie, Gaadi and Bassey are already training with the Akwa Ibom-based outfit while Akanbi is still in talks with the side.

However, Akanbi is expected to travel down to Uyo to hold further talks with Akwa United officials.

It is likely that the Crown FC striker could secure a loan move to feature for Akwa United.

"Monday Osagie, John Gaadi and Nkereuwem Bassey are currently training with Akwa United and they could sign for the side for the coming season. Also, the club is talking to Akanbi of Crown FC and it is hoped that he will agree to join us," a club source said.

The Promise Keepers as Akwa United are known were relegated on the final day of the 2008/2009 season but returned to the top flight last season from the Nigeria National League (NNL).
