Rangers turn to Emordi

SuperSport.com can reveal that Nigeria Premier League side, Enugu Rangers, have made formal contact with former Enyimba gaffer, Okey Emordi, regarding the club's vacant managerial position.

Former Rangers' boss, Alphonsus Dike, resigned on Thursday and the Enugu side have identified Emordi, who led Enyimba to the semifinals of the 2011 Caf Champions League as the man to lead the club into the future.

It will be another return to Rangers for Emordi who has managed the club in the past.

Another former Rangers gaffer, Lawrence Akpokona, was also considered for the job.

Sources at the Enugu-based club which is still in search of a trophy for 27 years informed SuperSport.com that both sides are already negotiating a deal.

Emordi resigned at Enyimba in November following the club’s failure to progress to the final of the Caf Champions League, while former Rangers' boss, Dike, equally left the club a few days after the Wafu Cup exit.

“Emordi is option A, B, C and D for Rangers. He is the man for the job,” the club source revealed to SuperSport.com on Thursday.

Interestingly, SuperSport.com learnt that Emordi’s appointment has received the blessings of the Enugu State Government, sponsor of the club.

Emordi confirmed the development when contacted by SuperSport.com.

“You're correct. I’ve had preliminary talks with Rangers, but yet to decide my next destination. As I speak to you now, I’m relaxing in my village.

“I need to spend time with my family before deciding where to go,” Emordi said to SuperSport.com.

The former Bush Bucks manager told SuperSport.com that he is also considering the offer from Ibadan-based 3SC.

“I have another offer from 3SC and they appear serious,” he said.

Dike left Rangers without winning a title in two years, while Emordi won the league for Enyimba in 2010 and lost the Federation Cup title to Kaduna United. Ironically, he also lost the 2011 Federation Cup.
