NPL in numbers

An amazing 99 goals have been scored in 59 matches played so far in the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) after six rounds of games. That stands for an average of 1.7 goal(s) per game, and that represents 75 percent wins including just two percent of those wins happening in an away while 23 percent of the games have ended in draws.

SuperSport.com compiles the stats that have made the 2011/2012 season in the top flight thick.

29 – Matchday Six of this season has recorded the highest number of goals with 29. Matchday Four of the NPL is closest with 24 goals.

17 – This is the number of players that have scored two goals each this season.

12 – Table-toppers Gombe United are the only club to have hit the double figures in goal-scoring this season. They have netted 12 times so far.

11 – Kaduna United have conceded more goals than any side – 11 in all. Sharks have shipped in 10 while Jigawa Golden Stars have taken in nine.

10 – Two matchdays (Week 5 and Week 7) recorded a total of ten goals each – the least on a matchday this term.

9 – Currently four teams are tied on nine points. The teams are Enyimba, Akwa United, Wikki Tourists and Niger Tornadoes.

8 – Dolphins, Enyimba, Wikki Tourists, Niger Tornadoes, Heartland, Lobi Stars, Jigawa Golden Stars and Kaduna United are the eight sides yet to draw a single game.

6 – Warri Wolves have gone six matches unbeaten this season. They are the only unbeaten side this season. Akwa United and Enugu Rangers come close with three and two unbeaten streak respectively. Also, Mustapha Babadidi of Gombe United is the top scorer on six goals and closely followed by Azuka Ebinum (Niger Tornadoes) and Sanusi Sani (Gombe United).

5 – Though six matches have been played this term so far, Enyimba, Sunshine Stars, Kano Pillars and Lobi Stars have played five each.

4 – Rising Stars and Ocean Boys are the draw specialists in the top flight with four draws apiece from six matches.

3 – Three players – Babadidi, Ebinum and Sani – have scored hat-tricks this term.

2 – Warri Wolves, Enugu Rangers and Enyimba have the meanest backline so far. Their defence have conceded just two goals each

1 – There has been just one win on the road so far this season. Gombe United hold the record of having won the only away game.

0 – Zero is the number of win(s) recorded for 2006 champions, Ocean Boys, who are the only NPL club yet to win a single match so far this term.
