Enyimba lead Nigerian top flight

Former Nigerian champions, Enyimba went top of the Premier League standings after being held to a 1-1 draw at Wikki Tourists on Wednesday.

The six-time NPL winners have now amassed 30 points and one above southeast rivals, Enugu Rangers, who led going into Matchday 17.

However, the Peoples Elephant will have to wait till late Thursday to know if they will remain in pole position in the Nigerian top flight after the Sharks versus Rangers game in Port Harcourt.

The game at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi between the Tourists and Enyimba ended in stalemate at half time.

But former FC Abuja striker, Obinna Eleje finished in a calm fashion to hand the visiting side a lone goal lead on 63 minutes.

However, Enyimba's plan to re-enact a 2007 win in Bauchi was cut short within five minutes when Rabiu Baita poked home the equaliser.

Enyimba had defeated Wikki at home 2-1 in June 2007 but this time settled for a point.

The former African champions will play hosts to Akwa United in their next NPL game on Sunday in Aba.
