Groin injury stops Aneke

Nigeria Premier League (NPL) record goal scorer, Jude Aneke (pictured left) has been ruled out of Warri Wolves' home game against Gombe United on Thursday.

Aneke has failed to recover from a groin injury ahead of the Matchday 17 game billed for the Warri City Stadium.

The former Anambra United striker played for just five minutes in Wolves' 0-0 draw against Sierra Leone's FC Kallon at the National Stadium in Freetown last weekend.

Wolves' head coach, Maurice Cooreman has opted to rest the striker by leaving him out of Thursday's clash against Gombe United.

"Jude has a groin injury. He played for only five minutes against FC Kallon in Freetown and he didn't come out good. So I won't take anymore risk with him again for the game against Gombe United. I want him to recover well," said the Belgian-born coach to SuperSport.com.

Aneke has scored three times for Wolves this season.

The former Kaduna United man becomes the second high-profile Wolves' player to be left out of the game against Gombe United after midfielder Uche Ossai was excuse following the death of his father.
