Heartland survive US Haut-Nkam assault

By Humphrey Njoku

Nigeria's Caf Confederation Cup campaigners, Heartland were held to a goalless draw by their hosts, US Haut-Nkam of Cameroon.

The first leg, round of 32 clash in Africa's second tier of club competition was decided at the OmniSport Stadium, Douala.

The return leg will hold in a fortnight at the UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar, the adopted home ground of Heartland.

Coach of Heartland, Ransom Madu who admitted to SuperSport.com that the match was keenly contested by both sides, however remained optimistic that his team will advance to the next round.

"Both sides showed class and made efforts at undoing the other. It was a keenly contested game, the scoreless draw is okay for us to take to the return leg.

"Surely, we'll outscore them in Nigeria, we've taken lesson on our lapses, we'll correct them before they came calling.

"We're going to put everything right and we pray that things will be softened for us in the league so that we will have adequate preparations," he said.

The former Iwuanyanwu Nationale player reinstated the determination of his wards to contest for the Confederation Cup title.

"Of course, that is our target to play all the way to the final and contest for the title.

"Incidentally, we've a perfect team at the moment, I pray we keep getting things right," he said.

Heartland are hopefully expected back home on Monday.
