NPL wrap for Week 29

Enyimba made sure that this season's title race in the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) remains very open after defeating leaders, Enugu Rangers in Aba on Sunday.

Lobi Stars secured their first win on the road against Ocean Boys, who now play their home games in Benin City after being axed for misconduct. Lobi's feat swells the total road wins to 11, which represents just three percent of the total wins so far this season.


Sharks 1-0 Sunshine Stars
Gomo Onduku is fast becoming the man with the magic wand at Sharks, as his lone goal earned his side a one-nil win over Sunshine Stars, who take their spot outside the top half. Sharks are on 39 points and in the top ten.


3SC 2-0 Wikki Tourists
The Oluyole Warriors continued their fine run in their last four games with a 2-0 win over the Tourists. Okiki Afolabi scored right on the break and new boy, Tony Edjomariegwe made it two on 62 minutes to send 3SC into the top half on 39 points. Wikki are now out of the top half.


Rising Stars 1-1 Jigawa Golden Stars
This relegation six-pointer ended all square like the reverse game in Hadejia. Jude Anazoh put the Golden Stars ahead after 21 minutes and Kayode Agboola returning to the Rising Stars' squad drew level 31 minutes later. Both sides remain in the bottom four.


Niger Tornadoes 2-0 Akwa United
Sibi Gwar scored his ninth goal of the season for Tornadoes and ex-Enugu Rangers' man, Kola Abegunde got the insurance goal to condemn Akwa United to their tenth defeat this term. Tornadoes are now fourth from bottom and Akwa United are eighth with 39 points.


Kano Pillars 1-0 Warri Wolves
Warri Wolves suffered a 0-1 loss as experienced defender Umar Zango popped up to poke home the winner for Pillars, who are now six points behind the leaders. Wolves are on 39 points and in sixth place.


Kwara United 2-1 Gombe United
Tunde Sanni Saliu's men won a third match on the bounce in Ilorin beating Gombe United 2-1. Seun Sogbeso and Bala Zakkah scored inside the half hour mark before Austin Ekpoma reduced the tally in the 78th minute. The Afonja Warriors are now in the top five on 40 points and Gombe United remain on 39 points in ninth position.


Dolphins 2-0 ABS FC
Two goals in each half from Emeka Atuloma and Emma Nwachi ensured champions, Dolphins stay four points behind leaders on 42 points and ABS are just two places above the drop zone on 33 points.


Enyimba 2-0 Enugu Rangers
Two ex-Rangers, Rasaq Adegbite and Ugwu Uwadiegwu, got the goals that made sure Enyimba tie the table-toppers on 46 points in spite of finishing the game with ten men. But Rangers remain top on superior goals difference.


Ocean Boys 1-2 Lobi Stars
Ocean Boys suffered a third straight loss as they surrendered a one-goal lead via Ifeanyi Chukwuma to lose 1-2. Tony Okpotu and Chimaobi Nwaogu scored in the second half to take Lobi's point to 39 while Ocean Boys are second from bottom.
