Bala won't go down with Jigawa

Bala Mohammed (pictured) has told SuperSport.com he has no plan to play in the Nigeria National League (NNL) next season should Jigawa Golden Stars be relegated.

The Golden Stars are fourth from bottom on 35 points and Mohammed still believes his team are in with a fighting chance of surviving the drop.

"I don't want Jigawa Stars to be relegated and that's why you have seen that the players and officials have done so well in the past four matches. We have not lost a game in our last four matches and that has helped our confidence a lot," said the midfielder.

When prodded further by SuperSport.com on whether he will remain with Jigawa Golden Stars if they are relegated, Mohammed said: "I'm not hoping for that to happen. But if that happens I will not like to play in the lower division."

The former Kano Pillars' midfielder is focused on helping Jigawa Stars stretch their unbeaten run to five when they play hosts to Akwa United at the Hadejia Township Stadium on Thursday.

"My concern now is the game against Akwa United tomorrow (Thursday). I want us to win it so that we will have a good chance of escaping relegation," Mohammed, who has scored eight league goals this season, said.
