Struggling
Port Harcourt club, Sharks, with odds stacked against them nicked a point off
Kwara United in one of Saturday's Glo Premier League match in Ilorin.
Both
teams played out a goalless draw at the Kwara State Stadium, where the hosts
had hoped to complete a double over Sharks having won the reverse fixture 1-0
in Port Harcourt in March.
Sharks
even had an added time goal scored by Ezioha Okereke chopped off.
It
is the first time since March 2008 that the Blue Angels will earn a point off
Kwara United in a league game in Ilorin.
A
please Sharks head coach, Gbenga Ogunbote, described the outcome as deserving
for his team.
"We
played to our strength. The boys were composed and showed maturity in the way
they played today (Saturday). Now they are believing that it is possible to
escape relegation," said Ogunbote.
Port
Harcourt clubs, however, completed a weekend to remember over their Ilorin
counterparts as Dolphins dismissed ABS 2-0 at the Liberation Stadium in the
other game on Saturday.
Just
before the break, former Warri Wolves man, Omo Johnson, turned in Olewezi
Johnson's assist for Dolphins' opening goal.
Ten
minutes to time, Emeka Atuloma headed away the insurance goal off a Chidiebere
Okolie's cross to knock the wind out of ABS' sail.
Dolphins
climb from eighth to third position and are now on 36 points while city rivals,
Sharks remain in the bottom four on 27 points.
Seven
matches will be played in the Premier League on Sunday and they are expected to
have a bearing on the log though Kano Pillars will remain top irrespective of
the results.
