The former Heartland striker, Esom, did not travel with the FC Taraba contingent that left Jalingo on Monday for Port Harcourt, where they will confront the three-time Nigerian champions.
Esom picked up a knock in their 1-0 win over Sharks on Sunday and has been ruled out of the trip to Dolphins by FC Taraba head coach, Ndubuisi Nduka.
"I did not travel with the team because I suffered a small injury on the leg in our match against Sharks. So I have been excused from the game against Dolphins," Esom told Naijaligue.blogspot.com on Monday.
FC Taraba will now be without two of their top marksman including Luther Iyorhe, who has been out for close to two months owing to injury.
Esom and Iyorhe have a combined total of five league goals with the former having scored three.
The striker believes that his teammates can hold forte in their absence and get a result as he wants to see FC Taraba finish in the top-five in their debut season in the top flight.
"Yes they will miss us and what we add as players to the team but that is not to say they can't do well in our absence. We have missed Luther since he got injured and now I have a knock but I believe we will be fit again soon.
"I just want to play my part and help the team finish among the top five which is very possible. The players going for the game against Dolphins are very good and I trust them to do well," said the former Plateau United forward to Naijaligue.blogspot.com.
FC Taraba trainer, Nduka, will now have to rely on Bobby Abel, Fidelis Saviour and Aminu Abubakar, who made the trip to Port Harcourt for Wednesday's match.
