Ikhana Refuses To Extend Sharks’ Contract

Attempts by officials of Premier League and losing finalist in this season’s Federation Cup, Sharks Football Club, to lure Kadiri Ikhana, with an improved offer to remain in Port Harcourt for yet another season has failed to appeal to the coach.
A source inside Sharks FC’s camp told our correspondent that the management of the club tried to open a fresh contract discussion with Ikhana before last Sunday’s final of the Federation Cup but he (Ikhana) stayed away from the meeting.
It is understood that the Sharks FC coach had moved his belongings from Port Harcourt and headed straight to his home in Abeokuta, Ogun State several days before the final of the Federation Cup.
Unknown to the management of the Port Harcourt club, the choice of camping at the Rock City Hotel in Abeokuta before the Federation Cup final against Enyimba afforded Ikhana the chance to remain in his place of abode.
Our source also recalled that the incident that led to his sack during last season before that decision was reversed was a huge embarrassment to a coach of Ikhana’s calibre.
Our correspondent also understands that that development unsettled the former Kano Pillars’ handler, who refused to extend his stay at the club.
“Ikhana is a smart man. He has moved his things to his home in Abeokuta and that tells the whole story that he has made up his mind. It was easier for him to do so since the team returned to Abeokuta to camp for the Federation Cup final. Some officials inside the camp of Sharks never liked him because he is a no-nonsense person and at the same time, he likes to carry on with his duties without interference. What happened when he was reported to have been sacked really, really annoyed him. He felt embarrassed that an official of Sharks could go so petty and sack him without informing the sports ministry in Rivers State, which appointed Ikhana in the first place,” our source said.
There is no official confirmation of Ikhana’s next destination though it is reported that he might be heading to Sunshine Stars of Akure or Lobi Stars of Makurdi next season.
