3SC Names Babalade As Acting Coach
Following the non-extension of Franklin Howard’s contract as Shooting Stars Sports Club’s (3SC) head coach ahead of the new season, the side’s team manager, Ajibade Babalade, has been saddled with handling the team through pre-season.
Naijaligue.blogspot.com understands that after refusing to extend Howard’s contract beyond the one-year he signed at the start of the 2007/2008 campaign, Babalade has been given the nod to take charge of the side on a temporary basis until a new coach is named probably next week, according to the club’s general manager, Mutiu Adepoju.
Since the regroup of the club ahead of its pre-season training for the 2009/2010 campaign this week, Babalade has been putting the players through pre-season training.
Last season, it was reported that Babalade was involved in an altercation with Howard during a training session, which led to both men exchanging words before players of the club.
Already the club is said to have been besieged by several new players, according to a source.
During the week, Adepoju confirmed that Tony Alegbe was ready to join the club before the start of next season, adding that the player would be placed on trials.
He also spoke on Duke Udi, who has been linked with the club, saying that he is yet to hear from the former Lobi Stars’ player.
“Tony Alegbe wants to play for us, but he will have to convince us that he can do that by coming for trials and I haven’t heard anything from Duke Udi yet. But like every player the two will have to prove that they are fit and prepared to play before our coaches,” Adepoju said.
Earlier this week, the Ibadan club confirmed that it had released 11 players after gaining promotion to the elite division ahead of next season.
The players freed by Shooting Stars are Daniel Mende, Ifeanyi Yongo, Olabisi Olagunju, Waheed Olatunde, Ibrahim Yusuf, Idris Arowolo, Ikechukwu Eluonzo, Musibau Olatunde, Sunday Ibeh, Saheed Yusuf and Rotimi Abass.
