The ongoing Super Four in Ilorin would enter Day Three after Bayelsa United and Warri Wolves opened the pre-season tournament on a goalless note.
Two matches have been scheduled for today. The first match for the day would be between Nigeria Premier League (NPL) champion, Bayelsa United and five-time winner of the same title, Enyimba, before Heartland Football Club and Warri Wolves take to the battle arena later in the day.
It would the second games for the four clubs and titleholder of the Premier League, Bayelsa United, is keen on taking the maximum points off the Peoples Elephant in today’s encounter at the Ilorin Township Stadium.
Bayelsa United captain, Bassey Akpan, is relishing the challenge that the Federation Cup holder, Enyimba, would bring.
In the off-season, Bayelsa United had defeated Enyimba by a lone goal in the Super Cup in Lokoja through Stanley Ohawuchi’s goal.
Akpan acknowledged that though the absence of the likes Ohawuchi would have an effect on the club, others are capable of filling the void left by the striker, who is currently in the camp of the Under-20 national team.
“Stanley (Ohawuchi) was our best striker last season and he still remains our best. But I believe we have a lot of quality players in our team that can play like him and they will show that when we play against Enyimba,” he said.
It is likely that Bayelsa United coach, Monday Odigie, could make two changes to the starting line-up that took on Warri Wolves in the opening.
Osas Okoro and Emma Nwachi could take the starting places of Otimoti Diri and Ameh Aruwa, who were both disappointing against Wolves on Tuesday.
In the other match of the day, Wolves’ head coach, Lawrence Akpokona, should have his playmaker, Michael Okoyoh, fit again after a bout of fever.
It is like that the former Enugu Rangers and Ocean Boys’ coach could start the club’s top scorer in the Premier League, Ehiosun Ekigho, against Heartland FC today.
