In what appears to be a shrewd business in the transfer window, Globacom Premier League newcomer, Dolphins Football Club, has grabbed the services of Bayelsa United players, Jonah Abutu and Emma Nwachi.
After a series of transfer speculation over the future of both Bayelsa United players, spokesman of Dolphins FC, China Acheru, confirmed that Abutu and Nwachi have been cleared to feature for the Port Harcourt-based outfit in the 2009/2010 season of the Globacom Premier League that gets underway on Sunday across the country.
“It will not make sense naming players who have not been cleared or duly registered as part of you team in the new season so I will be very careful about that. In our new team for the 2009/10 football season, we grabbed one player from Bayelsa United- defensive midfielder, Jonah Abutu,” China said referring to reports in the media pointing to the fact that both Abutu and Nwachi joined the former Nigerian champion.
The deal to bring Bayelsa United tough-tackling defensive midfielder, Abutu, to Port Harcourt was secured in an exchange deal that saw Akeem Yakubu move to the current champion of the Premier League.
Nwachi, whose full ownership belongs to another Port Harcourt club, Sharks Football Club, joined Dolphins FC in an exchange deal involving goalkeeper, Abayomi Olorunda.
“Bayelsa United finally agreed to release Abutu to us in exchange for Akeem Yakubu who went their way plus N1 million. Emma Nwachi who belongs to Sharks but was on loan to Bayelsa United also crossed over to Dolphins in exchange for goalkeeper Abayomi Olorunda,” disclosed Acheru.
Dolphins FC also signed on Chukwudi Samuel from Enyimba in exchange for Thankgod Amaefule plus N1 million.
