Newly-signed Dolphins Football Club midfielder, Jonah Abutu, missed the start of the season for his new Globacom Premier League side’s 1-1 draw in the game against Ocean Boys on Sunday in Port Harcourt.
Naijaligue.blogspot.com understands that the defensive midfielder has been battling with typhoid fever for several weeks before joining the 2004 Globacom Premier League champion before the start of this new season.
Abutu, who joined from Bayelsa United in a swap deal involving Akeem Yakubu as well as N1 million, was rested for Sunday’s opening Premier League match against Ocean Boys in Port Harcourt.
The former Bayelsa United man in a telephone interview made it clear to naijaligue.blogspot.com that he is still grappling to be fully fit for the ongoing season.
He added that in one of the friendly matches that he featured for his new side, he struggled for breathe throughout that pre-season game.
“For now I am down with typhoid for now. I have had this for some weeks and I hope to recover from it soon,” he opened up.
On his move from Bayelsa United to Dolphins FC, Abutu did not want to speak on the real reasons he decided to leave the champion for the newcomer in the Premier League.
He craved the indulgence of our correspondent that he would explain his decision to leave the club based in Oghara when he deems it right.
“Please I will not want to talk on the reason for leaving Bayelsa United for now. I just want to concentrate on the game and with my new club for now. May be we will talk about that when the time is right,” he said.
But Abutu is confident that he can replicate last season’s feat with Bayelsa United at his new club, Dolphins FC, this campaign.
It would be recalled that Abutu and his team-mate at Bayelsa United, Emma Nwachi, completed shock moves from the camp of the Globacom Premier League champion to Dolphins FC’s camp ahead of the ongoing football season in Nigeria.
It is understood that Abutu could make his debut for his new club on Sunday when Dolphins FC travels to Ibadan to face Shooting Stars barring any setback in his recovering from his ailment.
