No State Honours For Premier League Champion

It appears that the hope of Bayelsa United getting recognisation from its sole financier, the Bayelsa State government, has hit the rocks, Naijaligue.blogspot.com understands.
An official of the club revealed that the chairman of the club, Victor Bari Bote Rumson and a number of the club’s top officials were at the Government House in Yenagoa on behalf of the players last week.
No immediate explanation was given for the botched plan of the Bayelsa State government in receiving the players after their heroic feat last season when it won the Premier League for the first time.
It was learnt that the Bayelsa State governor, Timipre Sylva, is unhappy that the club is indebted and decided against seeing the players and rather assured that an undisclosed sum of money would be made available to the team for its title-winning feat last season.
The players at Bayelsa United are still owed 70 per cent of last season’s signing-on fees and more than 20 match bonuses.
