NPL Threatens Legal Action Against Globacom

With a season remaining in the title sponsorship of the Premier League, with Globacom planning to withdraw mid-way, the Nigeria Premier League (NPL), has threatened that if such happens that it would be forced to seek redress in the court of law.
Inside sources in the Abuja secretariat of the NPL confirmed to Naijaligue.blogspot.com that the board has been talking to its lawyer about the outcome of Monday’s meeting with the title sponsor.
But our source confirmed that with Globacom deciding that it would offer N250 million for this season’s campaign instead of N922 million, it was a pointer that the telecommunications company would pull out mid-way in the deal.
Naijaligue.blogspot.com understands that the excuse given by the title sponsor that it has not got value for its investment remains untenable.
NPL is also saying that Globacom refused to follow the clauses as stipulated in the contract.
Globacom's current contract, which kicked during the 2006 football season at a total cost, including value in kind, of N787 million rose to over N1billion for the current season.
