Peoples Elephant Continues Unbeaten Run

Five-time Globacom Premier League winner, Enyimba, has marched on in this season’s campaign with an unbeaten run after Day Nine in the top-flight division in Nigeria.

Contrary to reports crediting Kwara United and Warri Wolves with unbeaten runs in the Premier League, the Peoples Elephant remains the only side yet to lose a game this season.

Over the weekend, the Peoples Elephant trampled on Ranchers Bees at the Enyimba Sports Complex, Aba by 4 – 0 with goals from Osas Idehen, Josiah Maduabuchi and Valentine Nwabili.

At home, Enyimba has won three games and drawn two while on the road, it has won once and drawn thrice including a 3-2 win over struggling Sharks Football Club at the Liberation Stadium in Port Harcourt.

The two-time CAF Champions League winner started on a disappointing note in Aba when it was held to a goalless draw by Lobi Stars on September 20. But victories over Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) (1 – 0), Sharks FC (3 – 2), Zamfara United (1-0) and Ranchers Bees (4-0) has seen the Aba millionaires climbed to the top of the league in the first week of December.

However, the Premier League leader knows that its one-point lead at the top could vanish in a matter of days. “It is not the end of the season yet,” began Enyimba head coach, Okey Emordi, while speaking to Naijaligue.blogspot.com. “We are leading by just one point does not mean that we have arrived or that we have won the league yet. It is still a long way to the end of the season.”

Emordi is wary of the threat his team stands to face in subsequent games of the Premier League and predicted that this season’s campaign would be the toughest due to the quality displayed by all 20 clubs this season so far.

The title credentials of the Peoples Elephant would come under massive test in its next three games this month starting with a trip to Niger Tornadoes on Saturday.

On December 16, Enyimba would play host to Premier League champion, Bayelsa United, before travelling to meet star-studded Warri Wolves on December 20.

Okey told Naijaligue.blogspot.com that the three games would give him a picture of how his side would perform in the top-flight division against other title contenders.

“The matches will be big games and big test for us. The games will also let us know our strength against other top clubs. But I believe we will be prepared for those games,” he assured.
