Kaduna Utd’s Massive Win Excites Cooreman

Belgium-born coach of Kaduna United, Maurice Cooreman, has expressed happiness over his side’s trouncing of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) by 3 – 0 on Sunday at the Kaduna Township Stadium.
But Kaduna United’s win over Shooting Stars was aided by centre referee, Saliu Mohammed’s overruling what appeared to be an equalizer for the away side when substitute Karimu Shuaibu rose to nod pass goalkeeper Ibrahim Pius just with a quarter of an hour left to play.
The referee ruled out the goal and Shooting Stars let down its guard after that disappointing decision to concede two late goals with Yusuf Siman scoring one of the contenders for goal of the season inside added time.
Cooreman is happy that his side responding well in the game and has now climbed to eighth position from 11th.
“I am happy that we won well against Shooting Stars. It was important for us to win this game so that we could move into the top 10 of the league table, which we have done now and with a very good result – three-nil. I must commend the players for doing well,” Cooreman told Naijaligue.blogspot.com in Kaduna on Sunday.
But skipper of Shooting Stars, Shola Abolade, who did not finish the game after he got a knock in the leg, believes that the officiating was not fair enough and queried why Shuaibu’s goal was ruled out by the centre referee.
Abolade called on the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to always assess the performances of match officials after every league game in order to ensure that the best referees are given matches to handle.
“It is bad that the officiating was poor today because we gave our best. We got an equalizer but the referee did not allow it to stand and I wonder why because we deserved that goal. Until this win at home by force does not end in the league then away teams will find it hard to win games. That is why the authorities must always look at the performances of referees and take steps to improve officiating of the game,” the Shooting Stars’ midfielder said.
