After seeing his side finish last weekend’s fixture in the Premier League as the only away team to pick a point in Kaduna against Ranch Bees, Enugu Rangers’ head coach, Alphonsus Dike, offered that the season would end in an irregular manner.
Dike told Naijaligue.blogspot.com that with the ding dong pattern of movement at the top and bottom of the Premier League that it would be difficult to single out the side that would win this season’s title.
The former Golden Eaglets’ coach reeled out the names of Enyimba, Kano Pillars, Kwara United and Warri Wolves as capable of winning the Premier League in this season’s campaign.
He also included his team in the hunt for a first title in over two decades.
At the foot of the Premier League, Dike said he has seen several big clubs struggling, adding that he is surprised by the turn of events in the ongoing season though he fears that a big club could be relegated at the end of the season if the up and down pattern continues.
“When you look at the pattern with which the season has taken, you will find out that it is becoming interesting week after week. For those who follow it I am sure that they will be finding it hard to predict the club that would win it and at the same time, they would be thinking of which clubs would be relegated at the season. The way it is looking there is the possibility that a big team could be relegated and at the same time, a club that we least expected could win the league at the end of the season,” he said in a telephone interview with Naijaligue.blogspot.com at the weekend.
On the title chances of the Flying Antelopes, Dike threaded cautiously by choosing words in describing his side’s ambition this season in order to avoid making too much promise.
The Enugu Rangers’ manager was quick to say that his side is in the race for the league and would battle till the end of the campaign.
“At this time of the season, it is difficult to say whether anyone will win or not, but I can tell you that we are in the race for the title and I am sure that our opponents will not take us for granted just as we are not giving every game our best. We have a good team and I believe we have enough quality to compete for the title,” Dike concluded.
