Manager of Kano Pillars, Salisu Yusuf, has made it clear that the only undoing in his side’s aspiration of winning a second title in three seasons would come from within.
Yusuf, who won a second Manager of the Month Award in March organised by Naijaligue.blogspot.com and Naijapremierleague.com, believes that the only weapon capable of denying Kano Pillars this season’s title would be over-confidence.
The former Lobi Stars’ man offered that he has continually harped on the essence of killing off opponents to his players before every game.
“It is important that we remain 100 per cent focussed on maintaining our current position till the end of the season. We are not the only club that wants to win the league trophy. There are other clubs that want to win too. So, we take every match seriously and I tell my boys before every game to play as if the game will win them the league trophy,” he said.
Yusuf has not also closed his eyes to the fact that the Peoples Elephant as Enyimba is also called is breathing down his side’s neck in the title race with a game in hand.
The Kano Pillars’ head coach accepts that the last 10 games to end the ongoing season would be crucial in the title race for his side.
“The remaining matches are very important for us and our opponents (in the title race). But we will only concentrate on our own matches. We know our opponents are chasing us very hard but we will just play our own game,” he assured.
There is also the potential title clash with Enyimba on May 30 in Aba for Week 34 awaiting Kano Pillars that could decide Nigeria ’s champion for this season. Yusuf responded that he would not want to distract his side with a game that is almost a month away when there are five games before that epic tie.
