Kaduna United striker, Stephen Saviour and Kano Pillars’ head coach, Salisu Yusuf, have emerged winners of the Naija Premier League Online Player and Coach of the Month Award for March.
Organizers of the monthly award, Naijaligue.blogspot.com and Naijapremierleague.com on Thursday named the duo as winners based on individual and club performances only for the month of March.
CEO of Naijapremierleague.com, Aikhoje Ojeikere, disclosed that the panelists of the two web portals carefully perused all the statistics for the clubs and players and unanimously settled for the choice of Saviour and Yusuf as winners for March.
Based on the yardstick of encouraging goalscoring in the Premier League in Nigeria, the Kaduna United striker, Saviour, edged Kano Pillars’ in-form marksman, Ahmad Musa, with four goals in five games while his rival netted three in three.
Musa missed Pillars’ two other games due to his call-up to the Super Eagles Team B for the ill-fated second leg clash of the Championship for African Nations (CHAN) with Niger Republic .
Saviour, however, scored in the games against Enugu Rangers, Niger Tornadoes, Bayelsa United and Warri Wolves but fired blanks in his side’s 0 – 4 loss against Gateway Football Club.
Kano Pillars’ coach, Yusuf, is winning the award for the second time this season against the backdrop of impressive performance by his side, as he was the inaugural winner alongside Ahmad Musa in January.
In March, Yusuf edged Enyimba’s Okey Emordi to pick the Coach of the Month award while the duo of Maurice Cooreman and Solomon Ogbeide of Kaduna United and Sunshine Stars respectively lost out with just a point each.
