Crown FC blows N5.5m on promotion party

Ogbomoso soccer outfit, Crown Football Club, penultimate weekend celebrated its promotion to the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) by spending N5.5 million, Naijaligue.blogspot.com can reveal.
A source close to Crown FC’s management disclosed that it cost the new Premier League debutant about N5.5 million to organise the National Division I League Champion of Champions game against Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) Football Club.
After winning the 2009/2010 Nigeria National League (NNL) trophy at its home ground at Soun Township Stadium, Ogbomoso by three-nil, an elated management of the Ogbomoso side threw a lavish party with a dance band entertaining people at stadium.
A dinner party was later held for players and NNL officials led by its chairman, Dr. Shehu Adamu and secretary, Ayo Rahaman and other members of the league board at Ogbomoso Recreation Club.
This development, however, did not go down well with the government – the sole financier of the club – according to the remark of the Oyo State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, who is overseeing the affairs of the two state-owned clubs, Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) and Crown FC, on behalf of state government.
“I think such money is too much to be expended on just a match and promotion celebrations. I expected Crown FC management to be more prudent in their spending considering the huge expenses that lie ahead of them next season,” the commissioner noted.
