Ivorien, five others in race for Plateau Utd job

Best coach of the year 2000/2001 in Cote d’Ivoire, Kone Lassina, has reportedly joined the list of managers shortlisted to take charge at Premier League newcomer, Plateau United, as technical adviser alongside five other coaches.
Agent to the coach, Isah Baje, disclosed to Naijaligue.blogspot.com that the 42-year-old Ivorien applied for the job last month and has been pencilled down as one of the shortlists to head the coaching crew of the club for the 2010/2011 season.
“He applied for the job like the other coaches and the management of Plateau United have named him in the final shortlist for the job. I believe that he is qualified to handle a big club like Plateau United because he is very experienced having been in charge with several big clubs in his country and a number of West African countries,” the football agent said.
Spokesman of the club, Monday Goteng, told Naijaligue.blogspot.com on Monday morning from his base that the club has shortlisted six coaches from the volume of applications received in the past fortnight by Plateau United.
Goteng, however, did not disclose the names of the shortlisted coaches but admitted that there are foreigners among the frontrunners for the top job at the Jos-based club.
He also did not give a definite date on when a new technical adviser will be appointed but assured that it will be done before the new season.
“We have not named the technical adviser yet but we have shortlisted six of those who applied for the job. There are foreign coaches in the shortlists,” Goteng revealed.
On the future of coach Taiye Yusuf, the Plateau United image-maker explained that he will still retain his position as chief coach for the coming season.
He further explained that Yusuf will work with the new technical adviser to ensure that the club performs well in the Premier League for the new campaign.
Goteng added that Plateau United is also shopping to boost its backroom staff with the addition of two assistant coaches.
“He (Yusuf) still remains the chief coach but will work with the technical adviser when he is appointed. But Plateau United is also going to hire two assistant coaches as well to help the technical adviser and chief coach for the new season,” he disclosed.
