Niger Tornadoes’ striker, Eugene Salami, on Saturday was the hero when he scored the lone goal that ensured that Stella-Abidjan of Cote d’Ivoire did not escape with a goalless draw from Minna in a WAFU Club Cup clash.
Salami, who just returned to the country a trial in Europe, showed that he was the man for the job when he scored on 13 minutes.
But it was the Abidjan-based club that dominated the game for longer spells, only for its profligacy in front of goal denying it the chance to get an away goal.
Niger Tornadoes in spite of going a goal to the good lacked the direction to get a second goal leaving Stella-Abidjan to take charge of the game.
Both teams will square up in a fortnight in Abidjan for the second leg.
