Former youth international defender, Kennedy Chinwo and one-time Nigeria Premier League (NPL) goal king, Chibuzor Ozurumba, are among 22 players released by Heartland FC.
Right full-back, Chinwo, who has represented Nigeria at both Under-17 and Under-20 levels, returned to the local league after an unimpressive stint in Moldova.
The former Dolphin Football Club’s defender suffered a thigh injury in the closing rounds of the CAF Champions League.
Ozurumba, who finished as top scorer of the Nigeria top flight in 2003 with 13 goals, was a late addition to Heartland’s Champions League campaign for this year.
Among other players on the Heartland sack list are Adewunmi Adetokunbo and Odey Adama.
Assistant coach, Chijoke Isuagwu, has also followed coach Emeka Ezeugo out of the Naze Millionaires.
The Owerri side are undergoing a massive re-organisation following their ouster by the group stage of the 2010 Champions League.
