Bottled, can drinks banned from Kano stadium

The management of the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kofar Mata, Kano, where Premier League side, Kano Pillars, play their home games have decided to stop fans from bringing bottled or can drinks as well as satchet water into the mainbowl of the complex.
Manager of the stadium, Mallam Shehu Buhari, disclosed that the ban on the objects will be enforced when the new Nigeria Premier League (NPL) season commences.
Buhari also explained that the management of the stadium opted to stop fans from bringing bottled or can drinks as well as satchet water commonly referred to as ‘pure water’ in Nigeria, in order to ensure that the premises of the stadium remains clean.
He added that the ban is also meant to reduce the use of such banned objects for anti-football purpose like hooliganism.
The Sani Abacha Stadium supervisor, however, said the management is also planning to provide water containers at various positions inside the stadium so as to give fans the an option of getting drinking water rather than bring their own bottled or can drinks into the sports complex.
Buhari said the rationale by the stadium management is in line with the standard of the game so as to forestall unpleasant situations during the home games involving Kano Pillars this season.
“The action was taken to ensure the cleanliness of stadium before, during and after matches throughout the season. It will also discourage the use of such containers for any negative purposes.
“Also, the decision to provide water containers in the stadium is to reduce the hardship spectators might face as a result of such action. The stadium management has resolved to provide water containers in strategic places within the stadium for those that might need water for any purpose,” a part of the statement made available to SuperSport.com from the stadium management read.
