Dolphins relocate to Sharks Stadium

Dolphins will from Week 29 of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) play their remaining home matches at the Sharks Stadium, SuperSport.com has been informed.

A statement from the club on Thursday revealed that their home ground, the Liberation Stadium in Port Harcourt is undergoing reconstruction.

The stadium was shut down to the public last week as renovation commenced in preparation for the 17th National Sports Festival, Rivers State will play host.

This development means that Dolphins’ next home match against Crown FC this Saturday will hold at the Sharks Stadium.

Title-chasing Dolphins will not return to the Liberation Stadium until after the National Sports Festival.

Manager of the club, Stanley Eguma, is thankful that the switch in their home ground does not mean they will leave the city of Port Harcourt.

“No team wants to play away from its home and we all know the Liberation Stadium is our home ground. But what do we do? We need to rebuild our own stadium as our state hosts the sports festival.

“However, we thank God that we were not forced to move out of Port Harcourt entirely, and we urge our fans to continue to stand behind us and follow us to the Sharks Stadium from Saturday and for as long as we play away from our traditional home,” Eguma said.

Dolphins are currently in second position in the NPL table behind Sunshine Stars with both sides on 54 points.

Sunshine Stars edge Dolphins on a superior goals difference.
