Kwara Utd complete double on Juth

Kwara United made it a double win this season over Juth with a one-nil win at their home ground, the Ilorin Township Stadium in one of Wednesday’s Week 26 games in the Nigeria Premier League (NPL).

The home side were without five key players in Isiaka Olawale (pictured), Gbenga Arokoyo, Philemon Daniel, Ogbonnaya Okemiri and keeper Kazeem Yekeen - all on international duties.

But Kadiri Ikhana’s team showed no signs of missing their key men to compound the woes of visiting Juth through a first half goal from youngster, Barnabas Imenger.

In the first meeting this season in December 2010, goals from Gbenga Arokoyo and Anthony Okemiri sealed a road win for Ikhana’s men.

Kwara United started off well with the duo of Imenger and Anthony Okemiri being constant troubles for the back line of Juth in the opening minutes with their runs.

But it took 39 minutes before the two, Imenger and Okemiri, to combine and produce what turned out to be the only goal of the game.

From a resultant corner kick, Okemiri turned his marker inside out to create space for a cross that Imenger planted into Juth’s net from the near post to hand Kwara United a deserved lead.

It was definitely one of the easiest goals Imenger, whose father Barnabas Imenger Senior also played in the Nigerian topflight, would score in his career.

Six minutes later, Juth keeper picked out a swift cross from Okemiri to stop the ball from reaching Kabiru Sanusi, who is in search of his 11th goal of the season.

And just seconds later, Sanusi was guilty of missing from inside the six yard after great work from Imenger played him on goal though on replay, it showed that a Juth defender put him off his stride.

The restart was quite eventful, as Juth carved open Kwara United’s defence with their sleek passing moves but would blame themselves for failing to get a result on the road in this tie.

Kwara United now have 41 points from 26 games and are seventh on the log while Juth occupy 19th with 22 points after matchday 26.
