Lobi overrun Heartland in Bauchi

Lobi Stars gave themselves a shot to challenge for a top half of the table finish when they beat Heartland 3-0 at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi on Matchday 29 of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL).

Five players in Lobi's end, Anthony Okpotu, Emmanuel Ajia, Moses Orkuma, Zango Umar (pictured) and goalkeeper Danladi Isa turned on the style against the Naze Millionaires.

But Dominic Iorfa's men had to wait for 68 minutes before they could breach the backline of Heartland on Saturday afternoon.

Moses Bunde converted from the spot to give Lobi a one-goal lead before Okpotu doubled the advantage nine minutes from time.

Heartland then poured forward to get a lifeline but goalkeeper Isa and a defence led by Umar stood between them and a fight back.

Former Kano Pillars' man, Hilary Chukwu rounded off a fine display from Lobi Stars with a goal on 88 minutes.

Lobi climb from eighth to sixth on the table but will wait till Sunday's games to know if they will remain in same spot.

Heartland remain on 34 points, seven adrift the drop zone.
