Akpabio back at Plateau Utd

Plateau United top scorer this term, George Akpabio (pictured) has returned to country after failing to secure a deal at Norwegian sides, Viking and Lillestrom.

Akpabio, who has scored 14 goals in this season's Nigeria Premier League (NPL), told SuperSport.com that he arrived in the country on Tuesday.

"I arrived three days ago," the teenage striker said on Friday morning.

"Well I don't know why the deal in Norway didn't happen. But I'm not disappointed because maybe it's not where God wants me to play."

The striker was expected to turn up at the city of Antalya this week to join Turkish Superliga side, Antalyaspor but surprisingly arrived in Nigeria.

Akpabio, 18, said he is in the dark over a deal waiting for him in Turkey.

"I'm not aware of that (deal at Antalyaspor). Nobody told me anything about it," Akpabio said.

Already, three media outfits in Antalya - Akdeniz Manset Gazetesi, Gazete Bir and

Fotospor - have reported in different online editions that Akpabio is expected to seal a move to Antalyaspor.

SuperSport.com has been informed that officials close to the club handling the deal are worried that they will miss out on signing Akpabio.

The Turkish transfer window closes September 5 and Akpabio may not make it to Antalya in time since he will require three weeks to secure a visa from Nigeria.
